繁华落尽，触不到的，是那一星绿光。出身贫寒，隐瞒身份，化名Gatsby，一步步向上层社会爬去，最后拥有万贯家财，日日寻欢，盛宴、舞会，光影斑驳。他想念的仍是心目中的女神。五年后重逢，短暂的欢愉后是无尽的痛苦，女神已嫁作人妇。他们都在挣扎。Gatsby与Tom争执那段让我印象深刻，前者强烈自尊与自卑交织，拼命想要显示自己如今的富有，试图掩盖自己的出身，争吵结束时还不忘所谓的礼仪，这样又能说明什么。作一个假设，若Gatsby没有撞死Tom的情妇，或者Daisy没有结婚，他与爱人能否长相厮守？答案是否定的，眼神中都满是金钱的时代，Gatsby终究是一个小人物，万贯家财也只是虚无，他改变不了那个纸醉金迷的社会，葬身于已沾染上物质的腐朽气息的爱情坟墓。
