When Americans accept gifts, they usually say: 'This is very nice, it was what I most needed. When Chinese people accepts a gift, they usually refuse to accept it at first.  Even if they really like it, they will say 'no, please take it back'. But the person giving the gift will not feel unhappy. However, they feel uncomfortable when the person accepts their gift straight away, because they might think that the person was greedy. But America does the opposite, they never say no when accepting a gift. They look happy and surprised at any gift they get. They will say 'Very good! So nice!' and open the gift in front of the person.  
When Chinese people accepts a gift, if it wasn't  because of doing that person a favour, they will think of giving a gift back. Chinese people takes the value of the gifts very seriously, they always compare it with how much you earn. If they think you are very rich, they would never feel like not deserving it no matter how valuable your gift was. Us as Chinese students studying overseas thinks that going back to China is so exciting for us. But when we really go back, we feel very pressured. Because everyone will think that you were very rich, but the truth is that you aren't. However, some Chinese people see you coming back home to China, but only giving them a gift about ten or a hundred yuan, they don't even  think it's not worth accepting it. In fact, Chinese people's love is sincere, if you are poor, many people will help you from the bottom of their heart. When you become rich, you must repay them, also their relatives and friends, not missing one person.
