The rising American star shares the "Last Time" he asked a famous person for an autograph, among other tidbits
In Sarasota for the $100,000 ATP Challenger Tour event being contested there this week, #NextGen star Noah Rubin shares the last time...
I cooked for myself or someone else?
I cooked for my girlfriend about a week ago. Breakfast was easy because that was just an omelette. But we barbecued together and made kebobs and burgers. Her family is pretty good when it comes to any dish with meat, so that’s been passed down, and she also makes an incredible salad. I’m trying to learn. I’ve always loved cooking, but I’ve never put a lot of energy into it, so I’m trying to get better. My great-grandmother, who passed away a few years ago, was the best of the best. Jewish cooking like a nice brisket…you can’t argue with that.
I lost something important?
I did lose my bracelet, the players’ gift that they gave us this week. That was pretty bad, but I feel like it’s going to show up. And I lose my wallet every six-and-a-half seconds, so there’s that. [Laughs]. I have many panic attacks over that.
I missed a flight?
I missed one this year going from Australia to Maui. I quickly looked at the arrival time and thought it was the departure time…and I’m way more intelligent than this conversation would allude to! Luckily, we had some days in between, so that was fine.
I paid money to rent a tennis court or buy tennis balls?
I buy balls all the time! Are you kidding me? I had to buy them when I played in a Futures event. I usually try to sneak on to a tennis court, but it’s tough to do that with new balls.
I strung my own racquet?
Never. I’ve never strung a racquet before and have no interest in learning.
Being famous helped me?
I wouldn’t quite say I’m famous yet. I’m sure it’s helped my grandparents more than anything else. They throw my name out as much as they can, way more than I do! But if I go to local places or certain places in Florida where my family is, I might get a few things here and there. But I’m not at a level where I could really say what it gets me. I’m working towards it!
I shared a hotel room with another player?
I don’t think I’ve shared a hotel room since the juniors. I even had my own room in school. It’s tough to share one. I’m very organised, very neat, so it’s tough if there’s a kid who’s throwing stuff everywhere or laundry is laying around.
I asked someone famous for an autograph or a selfie?
I don’t really believe in autographs, but the last famous person I took a photo with was President Obama. I was at the White House last year for the Easter egg roll and was like, “I have to get a picture with him.” It’s the President of the United States, so you can’t really complain about that! Besides that, I did a pro-am and Liev Schreiber was part of it. I think he’s incredible as an actor, so I asked to take a picture with him.
