Mara vet attended to Yaya the lioness at paradise plains -Maasai Mara. The lioness is from the marsh pride.
Yaya was suffering from deep, septic wounds on the spinal region, flank and hind limbs. The wounds were infected and infested by maggots. The wounds were cleaned with water, hydrogen peroxide and flushed with iodine. Systemic administration of amoxicillin, dexamethasone,Catasol and ivomec was administered.
The long search and treatment was done by the Maasai Mara County warden and team- Musiara, Governors camp guides and the KWS-Mara vet unit. The prognosis is guarded. Monitoring will continue
Thank you Dr. Michael Njoroge for all that you do and the rest of the Mara Vet team. You guys are the heroes of Masai Mara. No living creature deserves to be left to suffer ever.
I will also like to thank nickkaleku (even tho I’m blocked ) and @a20754 for locating her this morning and contacting the vet .
Note: She doesn’t look well at all. I hope she recovers, but from what I can see, her situation is delicate. She is a resilient warrior. She has had a life full of obstacles and fought hard to raise her grandchildren. The reflection of so many obstacles and struggles are now visible in her fragile appearance. I love Yaya. I am relieved that she has been medicated, but this image makes me very sad. @nesmararaujo
