I am an associate professor in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering and an adjunct associate professor in the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Wyoming.
My research is focused on hierarchical permeable media with complex networks that feature a wide array of spatial and temporal scales. The main thrust of my work is developing physics-based, predictive macroscale descriptions of such hierarchical permeable media with applications in geologic storage of CO2 and natural gas reservoirs.
In my group, I currently have an open PhD position with full support, which covers tuition, fees and living expenses. This position is well-suited for those with a strong background in applied mathematics and computing and an interest in the physics of transport in permeable media. The prospective student will work closely with the group to probe mass transfer across a wide range of scales using a variety of models, such as Molecular Dynamics, Lattice-Boltzmann and Navier-Stokes. The goal is to ultimately identify the dominant physics at each scale and translate them across scales to macroscale descriptions.
This effort is part of a collaborative multi-institutional center comprising Stanford University, University of Southern California, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wyoming. Candidates are expected to conduct research in close collaboration with researchers from the member institutions of this center.
