MADAME FIGARO: A film? CATHERINE DENEUVE: Orson Welles' Citizen Kane. Amazing, modern, unsurpassable. M. F.: An actress? C. D.: Marilyn Monroe. So touching and shattering. I also love American 1940s comedy actresses like Jean Arthur and, especially, Judy Holiday. M. F.: An actor? C. D.: Robert De Niro. Or rather Cary Grant, he's dazzling in comedy. M. F.: A director? C. D.: Joseph L. Mankiewicz, of course. M. F.: A film that you wish you have made? C. D.: The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum. When I got interested in this project the rights were already sold. M. F.: A remake you want to make? C. D.: Mildred Pierce with Joan Crawford. I tried to do it for a long time but it was finally remade with Kate Winslet. M. F.: A recent part you would have wanted to play? C. D.: Paul Verhoeven's Elle. A part that I wish I could play ten or fifteen years ago.
