Good to Great! let's read!

Google Assistant is a service designed to help users get things done. It learns about you through your questions, as if you were talking to a person who knows you. Using advanced technology, Google Assistant can communicate as if it were a real person. For example, someone is standing in front of a sculpture and asks Google Assistant, "Who is the artist?" The service would know where the person asking the question was and what he or she was talking about, providing the name of the sculpture's artist as the answer.

Today, we continue talking about the word "book." Books are so common that it is easy to take them for granted, or fail to appreciate them. But "book" is a very useful word and is common to many expressions and idioms. Let's begin with "book" used as a verb. "To book" is a slang expression. Some experts say its earliest use was the 1970s. It means to leave -- often quickly. So, if someone says, "Can't talk now. I gotta (got to) book!" it means they need to hurry to get somewhere.

                选自VOA Special
                Tips:
                1. Book的oo是短音,发音干脆,不可拖沓
                2. 注意文中出现的双元音的读法,发音到位、饱满,如today, appreciate, take, fail
                3. Slang的读音,梅花音+后鼻音
                4. leave的ea要读长音,区分live
                5. 1970, nineteen的een的发音

Deep down inside everything we see around us, we found a universe completely unlike our own. To paraphrase one of the founders of quantum mechanics, everthing we call real is made up of things that cannot be themselves regarded as real. Around 100 years ago, some of the world's greatest scientists began a journey down the rabbit hole into the strange and the bizare. They found that in the realm of the very small, things could be in two places at once, that their fates are dictated by chance and the reality itself defies all common sense.

Half of the world regulate sex work by criminalizing everyone envolved. Lawmakers apparently hope that the fear of getting arrested will deter people from selling sex. but if you're forced to choose between obeying the law and feeding yourself or your family, you're doing the work anyway. and when you have a criminal record it's hard to get a conventional job, the law forced you keep selling sex, which is the exact opposite of its intended effect.

One psychologist feels that our facial expression is responsible more than anything else for the impression others have of us. In fact, more than 50 percent of another’s impression, he believes, is influenced by the look on your face. Naturally a smile in which the eyes participate is extremely communicative. A scowly look often brings the same thing in return.
