How phosphorous is cycled through the ecosystems
Weathering,Plants and animals’ uptake,Decomposition,Run off and leaching and sedimentation and rock formation,Geologic uplift
Weathering:
The process of breaking down the big rock into small pieces(fragments)
It has two types:chemical and physical.
Chemical:acid rain and chemicals released by lichens can cause it.
Chemical reaction can let the phosphate rocks break down and release into soils
Physical:process such like rain, wind, release phosphate which in the rock
Weathering can release it into soil
Plants and animal’s uptake
The phosphate which in the soil will be absorb by the plants’ roots. If animals eat the plants, they will obtain it too.
Decomposition
When the organisms die, the decomposers will break them. The phosphorous will back to the soil.
Run off and leaching.
When phosphate enter into the aquatic ecosystem. The result of the phosphate will leach and run off.
Most phosphate will run off in the lake or ocean bottom. It will sediment and finally became the sedimentary rocks.
Geologic uplift
It is the process that let the deep sedimentary rocks rise and be exposed.
