In the current Broadway musical “On the Twentieth Century,” set on a luxury train hurtling from Chicago to New York, stars Kristin Chenoweth, Peter Gallagher and Andy Karl deliver a winning blend of screwball comedy, opera and good ol’ song-and-dance. TheScott Ellis-directed revival is a fresh take on the 1970s original Broadway production and, according to WSJ theater critic Terry Teachout, is “the best musical to hit Broadway since “On the Town.’” Teachout calls it “a fluffy exercise in high-octane pleasure, blessedly devoid of deep thought and certain to satisfy anyone not congenitally po-faced.”
