Interview with Dacia Bridges Thanks to the Unofficial Sweetbox Street Team (@SweetboxTeam ) for this interview with Dacia Bridges (who was the second singer and known for the songs Shakalaka and Wot)
————————————————————————— Q: Hi Dacia! Thank you for taking the time for this interview. My first question is, how did you get introduced to Sweetbox? A. I cant remember exactly but i got a call that para music was looking for some one to jump in after Tempest left. I was doing another project at the time called ‘ mind control’.. So, i tried my luck and went for it.

Q: When you signed on to Sweetbox were you set to release an album? A. Yes, we were working on a record.
—–
Q: I remember reading that the original idea was to "pick singers like you were picking a piece of candy out of a box of chocolates"… Did you know that you would only release "Shakalaka" and "WOT" with Sweetbox? A. No i didnt because we were working on a record. Then the producer who’s name escapes me now (who i thought was fantastic) wanted to make a different project with me with the songs. Which i would of done if the business side for me would of stayed correct.

Q: You’re kind of a jack of all trades. With "Tape", there was this very metal influence with the instruments but your voice on top of it. This is apparent in your biggest hit with that group, "Yeeha".. Then with Sweetbox, there was this seemingly Euro House thing going on. And of course your acoustic album is very mellow and soulful. Is there any kind of music genre you won’t do? A. All i can say is i love making music&good music. I grew up with everything, was the school dj and so i had alot of influences. My biggest hit was ‘ i begin to wonder’ with jca. Originally it was a rock song turned to dance. I believe its all a journey and very challenging. I don’t know whats coming next… Except my next acoustic record which i finished last year and some dance tracks to be released this year.
—–
Q: As fans, we’ve heard things from time-to-time about the men behind the project. What was your take on Heiko Schmidt and GEO? A. talented
—–
Q. Had you heard of Sweetbox before? A. No
—–
Q. They had the one hit before you in, "Booyah (Here We Go)" but that was really all. The big thing after your departure was the fusion of classical music meeting pop, so would you have liked to try that out? A. Yes because that was the direction we were working on while creating the record.
—–
Q. There seems to be this thing between fans of Sweetbox where we say we have this singer as our favorite or that singer as our favorite. Did you follow Sweetbox after your departure any? A. No
—–
Q. Are there any songs that you particularly like by the project? A. I would say when i came into it i only got the chance to start writing after ‘say wot’ i wasn’t crazy about the stuff but i loved the sound!
—–
Q. I read once that you had a problem with the Bush Administration so you left the United States for good. Now, of course rumors are rumors and people will talk and I don’t want to get too far into politics, but what would you say is the sole reason behind your dislike of the Bush administration? A. What? Huh? No, i never left! Hahaha.. My take on bush is…..learn to read cards better…stay out of an office job.
—–
Q. "Shakalaka" is admittedly one of my top 5 guilty pleasure songs when I’m working out or cleaning. What is your guilty pleasure music? A. For me its not a guilty pleasure its just a must: van halen!
—–
Q. Who are you listening to these days? A. I listen to at the moment:
van halen,prince,dangelo,leonard cohen.
—–
Q. Back to Sweetbox quickly before we wrap things up. The group, arguably saw the most success with Jade Villalon who had multiple albums with the group, but one could probably argue that you were better off without Sweetbox due to your huge success with bands like TAPE, Dacia & the WMD and of course your huge co-write on Dannii Minogue’s "I Begin To Wonder". A. This wasnt a co-write with dannie she covered it.
—–
Q. Is there ever a moment where you wished that you would have stayed longer? A. No.if i think about it now i would have liked to finished that record with a mutual understanding but my journey just went some where else.
If u cant be fair i am outta there!
—–
Q. Can you tell us what projects you have going on, in addition to the second acoustic album you were recording as of August of 2012? A. Right now i am just focusing on my solo stuff and dance writing and a few projects where i have been asked to write and sing for.

Q. Thank you Dacia for your time!
A. All the best to you and have a good one! Sunny greetings from portugal! ——————————–
