Benitez To Snap Up £5m Heinze - Report
 
The Sun report that Rafa Benitez could move swiftly to snap up Gabriel Heinze from under the noses of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
 

 
zoom - galleria The two Spanish giants have been linked with the Argentine international, who has lost his Manchester United first team spot to Patrice Evra, and is supposedly available for £5-6million.

Juventus and Milan have also been linked with the tough-tackling multi-purpose defender, though neither have made an official approoach just yet.

The player himself has made no secret of his plan to think about a move away from Old Trafford after the Copa America.

"I know some clubs are interested in me," he said. "My head is with the Argentina team to play the Copa America.

"After that and a holiday, I will know better where I will play next season."

According to The Sun, Liverpool - who are finally making some moves in the transfer market - are the ones looking to wrap up this deal without much ado, and willing to offer £5million for a quick resolution.

Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are waiting to see how the Chivu and Milito sagas end before moving for Heinze, and the Reds could make the most of that.

The move could see John Arne Riise promoted into a permanent left-sided midfield role, with Rafa not confident about his defensive abilities. It could also bring about Fabio Aurelio's exit.

It remains to be seen, though, whether Sir Alex Ferguson will sell Heinze to another Premiership club, let alone to potential title rivals.

Florent Malouda has made his decision: he wishes to join Chelsea, rejecting Liverpool. So surprise surprise, another transfer without any Arsenal involvement at all.

Don’t get me wrong: Malouda is a fairly average player. But average is a whole let better than what we currently have in terms of wingers: nothing.

In The News of the World we’ve been linked with Carlos Tevez. A source close to Tevez said:

“Arsenal are serious contenders. If Tevez stays in England, it’s between them and United.“

Although we can only speculate as to who this source might be, current reports indicate it could be “a little birdie”, “the boogeyman”, or “a bucket of bullshit”. I guess we’ll never know.

Real Madrid have suggested they might be interested in keeping Jose Reyes. One suspects their interest is entirely dependent on the success or otherwise of their pursuit of Arjen Robben. A cash-flushed Athletico still seems a more likely destination.
David Dein’s PR people have been at it again, suggesting he’s so confident of returning to Arsenal that he’s turned down the opportunity to buy plenty of clubs. Don’t people realise? He’s in the business of selling clubs, not buying.

Celtic, Rangers in for Liverpool winger Hammill

Skysports.com reports a number of clubs are lining up a move for Liverpool youngster Adam Hammill. 
Hammill, who is highly-regarded at Anfield, is set for a loan move this summer as Rafa Benitez continues his policy of loaning out his best young players, so that they can gain valuable experience before making the step-up to the first team. 

Hammill was also a regular in the England Under 19 side this season, in a side which included the likes of Giles Barnes, James Vaughan and Fabrice Muamba. 

Old Firm duo Celtic and Rangers are both willing to offer the skilful winger a chance to play in Scotland again next season, after he impressed against them while playing on loan for Dunfermline. 

However, the likes of Birmingham, Leicester, Watford, Crystal Palace and Southampton are all keeping tabs on Hammill and are ready to offer the 19 year old regular first team football.

Fowler bereft of offers since Liverpool release

ROBBIE Fowler has revealed he has had no offers since being released by Liverpool. 

The 32-year-old former England striker has been linked with moves to MLS side New England Revolution and Australian outfit Sydney FC. But Fowler insists he has yet to hear from any club.

Reds Quaremsa link played down

The Liverpool Echo has played down reports linking Liverpool with a move for FC Porto's flamboyant winger Ricardo Quaresma. 


Reports this morning claimed that Liverpool had saw a £13.5m bid for the Portugal forward rejected but a deal could be struck if they raised their bid slightly.

However, Reds' chief executive is quoted as describing the rumours as 'nonsense', although it is unclear whether that is in relation to Liverpool's interest or alleged bid.

The Echo also adds that Liverpool's interest in AS Roma's Brazilian winger Alessandro Mancini has 'cooled'.

Both Quaresma and Mancini are right-sided players who can operate on the left-wing. Both possess outrageous skill and would appear to fit the bill.

Manager Rafael Benitez confirmed yesterday that he wanted to bring in one, maybe two, wingers following the capture of Fernando Torres.

"I am looking for wingers now and though we have to sell I hope that doesn't have to happen first," said the Reds' boss.

"We are getting close with some of the players we are looking at and I believe we can bring a winger in straight away, regardless of outgoing deals."

LIVERPOOL pulled off two major transfer coups last night, as they reclaimed much of the money they splashed out on Fernando Torres.

The Anfield club have agreed deals to sell Djibril Cisse to Marseille and Craig Bellamy to West Ham on a frantic afternoon of negotiation.

Amazingly, the Anfield club will receive £8million for Cisse - who was told he had no future on Merseyside - after Marseille were panicked into spending the money after bids from Portsmouth, West Ham and Bolton pushed the price well beyond their original offer of £1.5m.

 Cisse is likely to complete the move over the weekend, and there was further good news last night when Liverpool agreed in principle to sell Bellamy to West Ham.

The fine details of the transfer are yet to be thrashed out but the London club will have to pay around £7.5m for the fiery Welshman.

With the sale of Luis Garcia to Atletico Madrid for £3.5m also boosting the coffers, Liverpool have recouped £18m of the £21m they spent in making Torres a club record transfer.

It is an astute bit of business for manager Rafa Benitez, leaving him with only a £3m outlay so far on his summer transfer dealings.

But the Anfield boss intends to spend more because he will go back to West Ham to complete a deal for their Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun for around £3m.

Benitez also wants to spend £6m on Manchester United's Argentina international Gabriel Heinze, despite the difficulties of negotiating a deal between the two bitter rivals.

He also hasn't given up hope of signing Sevilla's Brazilian Daniel Alves, despite a price tag of £20m.

Benitez also welcomed striker Andreiy Voronin, who finally arrived from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool reject Bolo Zenden could link up with Cisse at Marseille. The Dutchman is joining the French side for training and will hold talks about a contract despite interest from several Premiership clubs.

Stockport have agreed to sell 18-year-old winger Ryan Crowther to Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.
