3. WHERE CAN I BUY THE MUSIC?
The first, second and third singles are completely sold out. A good place to look for forthcoming releases is
http://netsoundsmusic.com
Recommended sellers include Rough Trade(
http://www.roughtrade.com/site/index.lasso), Action Records(
http://www.actionrecords.co.uk/)and Pure Groove(
http://www.puregroove.co.uk/). When items have sold out your best bet is eBay(
http://www.ebay.co.uk/), but expect to pay top dollar for these highly collectable releases.
4. WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD HORRORS mp3s?
iTunes has the single "Count In Fives", and many of the forum members bought both singles and MAY link you to an uploaded mp3 (see the Media section of this site) if you ask nicely, but please don't spam the board with requests. The songs on MySpace(
http://www.myspace.com/thehorrors) are usually streamed, but are occasionally made available for download. Illegal copies of the tracks, radio sessions, live versions etc can be found with P2P programs. The Horum recommends Soulseek.
5. COVER VERSIONS
"Jack The Ripper" was originally recorded by Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages and has been covered many times, with The Gruesomes version most influential on the Horrors. "Crawdaddy Simone" was by The Syndicats. Both orginals were produced by Joe Meek.
6. INFLUENCES AND SIMILAR BANDS
The Horrors sound is a composite of the band members' wide taste stretching back to the 1950s, with an emphasis on the punkier side of Psychedelia. You may wish to check the works of The Monks, The Sonics, Joe Meek, MC5, The Ramones and Jesus & Mary Chain.
Current bands that have close links with the Horrors (without necessarily sounding much like them) include The Rotters, Neils Children, Xerox Teens, The Violets, These New Puritans.
