1983年 second sight
After the overwhelming success of Tracy Huang's first album, "Changes" throughout the region, a follow-up album had become absolutely necessary. Though "Changes" was totally different from her previous releases, her second album "Second Sight" had put even more pressure on me, but sticking with the sweet ballad tradition was not something that Tracy and I wanted to pursue there fore, we decided to take a daring step by injecting a livelier feel to this second album. For the first time in Tracy Huang's albums it contained more upbeat songs than ballads.
This new direction allowed Tracy to showcase the other side of her singing talent and it was also timely to break her away from the usual sweet and innocent mold, to a more dynamic act. Selection of materials became even more critical as it needed to be lively & fast-paced but yet suit her vocal style. "Moonlight Shadow" by Mike Oldfield, my first choice had proven to be very appropriate and the Elvis Presley classic "Teddy Bear" was given a brand new treatment. A couple of dance numbers such as "Down To The Party" and "Dong Dikki Dikki Dong" were also included.
When the album was released, the public response was mixed because some of the fans were not used to the "new" Trafcy sound, but for me there were no regrets for the change of music direction. With Tracy's superstar status, her music needed to change withtime, and she totally agreed.
"Second Sight" might not be as accessible as her previous album but it had displayed her versatility as an artiste plus the fact that the album was of great production quality, thanks to the great musicians who contributed and excellent engineers!
With the reissue in CD now, it brings back the memories of how we took that bold step in the 80's and we can still claim pride for the daring step
