Baiyang Lake used to be known as "Southern Lands in the North", but construction of the cottages has its own features, which is quite different from that of Jiangnan. One of its features is the shape of the roofs, in the rainy south, sloping roofs can ease rainwater flow, while cottages here are different, the flat roofs are where the grains are sun-dried and where people put their belongings on when there is a flood in history. The narrow space between cottages is another feature, some roofs are even almost connected.
